Brady Garden's first Open Day is a success

On Saturday 10th September the Brady Garden Group held its first ever Open Day. Around 60 people arrived to see the garden in its full glory, to a host of summer flowerbeds in bloom, Bengali vegetable plants, an edible herb bed and a full programme of activities for everyone to enjoy.

The special event included storytelling and workshops, such as making bee finger puppets, ideas for a community mural, plant potting and making lavender pouches. Special guests included Alison Smith, Horticulturist and Bee Keeper from Kew Gardens who spoke on the importance of encouraging bees into gardens and Tamir Lkhagvaa who played the traditional Mongolian Morin Khuur, a stringed violin-type instrument.

“It’s been a labour of love for all the volunteers and after 4 years of hard graft, we have revived the garden and established our place in the heart of east London’s vibrant, creative community”, says Shara Ismail, Brady Garden Group Coordinator.

The Brady Garden has been transformed with the help of Jerry Deeks, Brady Centre Manager, Rez Kabir the Garden Activities Coordinator, Jan Savage who designed the annual flowerbeds and Saif Osmani, London-based Architectural Designer.

The Brady Garden Group started in 2012 and wants to create a place of ‘Peace in the Middle of East London’ by connecting with local people and community groups through collaborating on creative projects that connect Art with Nature.

The Open Day was sponsored by Chaat, Tamarind Theatre Company, Tranquillity Essence of Relaxation and the Bengali East End Heritage Society.

Thank you to Photographers Shakiba Chowdhury and Brian Would.
